B & B
If you are not impressed by the rather impersonal approach from the chain Hotels, there is another option namely Bed and Breakfast or Guest Houses.
Although Bed and Breakfasts are generally cheaper than hotels, the main appeal of this accommodation is that they are generally run by private owners who strive to provide a more personal approach to their guests. Being generally a lot smaller than chain hotels, Bed and Breakfasts are available in most London areas.
Unlike many Hotels, Breakfasts are an intergral part of the B&Bs although they can vary from a simple Continental to a Full English.
If the rating system for Hotels is problematical, the ratings for B&Bs and Guest Houses is often non-existent, although the better ones have been rated by the AA.
There is enormous difference in standards between the new 'Boutique' B&Bs and the poor ones at the bottom end of the market.
The bests B&Bs are a very high standard with well furnished rooms and good facilities with friendly owners who will offer advice on places to visit in the local area.
Therefore Customer Reviews are vitally important when choosing a good standard B&B.
Be aware that you are unlikely to find many B&Bs in the main central areas, you are likely to find them in more outlying areas, therefore make sure the location is near the Transport System.
